The SMIIC has established new technical committees on “Halal Pharmaceutical Issues” (Technical Committee TC 16 - Halal Pharmaceutical Issues) and Handicraft (Technical Committee TC 17 - Handicraft). These technical committees serve to develop a network of halal pharmaceuticals and handicrafts.

 Experts from the Institute of Standards and Metrology of Islamic Countries under the OICwill participate in the technical committees.

The technical committee  of  Halal Pharmaceutical Issues (Technical Committee TC 16 - Halal Pharmaceutical Issues) will be headed by the Government of Malaysia, and Handicraft (Technical Committee TC 17 – Handicraft) by Egypt.
